The Mt Elinor hike is known to be a challenging hike with a steep and rocky trail. The summit is 6,850 feet (2,088 m) and offers beautiful views of the surrounding Olympic Mountains and valleys. The hike can be done year-round but the best time is usually considered to be in late summer or early fall when the wildflowers are in bloom.
It is important to check the trail conditions with the local park service, bring enough water, food, and appropriate gear, and be prepared for sudden weather changes. Also, it's a good idea to let someone know your plan of hike, what time you expect to be back and also to check the weather forecast before starting the hike.
The length of time it takes to hike Mount Elinor in Washington State can vary depending on factors such as the hiker's fitness level and trail conditions. On average, it takes about 4-5 hours to hike the 8.4-mile round trip trail to the summit and back. It is always recommended to plan for more time and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
I've encountered mountain goats, like all wild animals, should be respected and treated with caution. While they are generally not aggressive towards humans, they can become dangerous if they feel threatened or cornered. It's important to keep a safe distance, avoid approaching them too closely, and never feed them. If you encounter a mountain goat on Mt Elinor or any other mountain, it's best to slowly move away and give them space.
I personally love this hike and it is definitely one of my favorites. I plan on doing it many more times in my life.
